Charity Event for Surf Kick-Off to Benefit Stoked and Other Nonprofits

Stoked is one of the ten surf-related nonprofits that will receive proceeds from a festival kickoff event to include the NYC premiere of CAPTURE: A WAVES Documentary film as well as a visual feast of surf material by independent surf culture website Korduroy.tv.  The event will take place Wednesday September 22nd 7pm at Reunion Surf Bar, 357 West 44th St at 9th ave, midtown Manhattan.

WAVES for Development, Waves of Health, the Best Day Foundation, Stoked Mentoring, the Surfrider Foundation NYC Chapter, Surfing for Peace, Life Rolls On, Walu International, Surf Resource Network and Surf for Life will provide information on their surf nonprofit programs at the event, hosted by the New York Surf Film Festival, WAVES for Development and Korduroy.tv.

Surfing has inspired many individuals to take action in the areas of film, conservation, sustainability, education, health, and humanitarian aid.  This event will bring together representatives from innovative change makers in a spirit of collaboration; a belief that A Rising Tide… will lift all boats.

CAPTURE: A WAVES Documentary is a short film that dives deep into the impoverished community of Lobitos, Peru and the experience of surf travelers who dedicate their passion to the youth there.  The NYC premiere of the film will be featured at this surf charity kickoff event for the third annual New York Surf Film Festival, held September 24th through the 26th.

WAVES for Development International Executive Director Dave Aabo says “This is a great opportunity to share ideas and success stories with other not-for-profit organizations; I feel blessed that the NYSFF, Korduroy.tv, and the great crew at Reunion Surf Bar have taken an interest in all of the surf-related causes.  We’ll create a platform to celebrate and support the diverse work of surf nonprofits”.

NY Surf Film Festival co-founder, Tyler Breuer adds “I think what WAVES for Development is doing with this event and how they want to share success stories with other surf not-for-profit organizations is such a great thing for not only bringing awareness to the NY surf community but also forming alliances that will only help each other in the long run. I’m stoked that the New York Surf Film Festival is involved and helping to support this event. Plus the NYC Premiere of “CAPTURE: A WAVES Documentary” is going to be incredible and get everyone pumped for the following weeks events!
