Mentor Activity: New York Film Festival, through Sunday, October 10th.


The New York Film Festival is one of the top showcases of film around.  Think you and your mentee would enjoy a show? Check out the schedule (http://www.filmlinc.com/nyff/2010/nyff-schedule-by-date) for a list of screenings, this is the last weekend! Tickets are $20 and are available online.

Mentor Activity: Adventure Course, Sundays, through November.

Go out to Alley Pond Park Adventure Course, a Queens obstacle course that is FREE! Play around on the bouldering wall, clime up to a 45 foot high platform and ride zip line, and check out the Human Swing Shot, on a first-come, first-served basis (for up to 40 people). Open on Sundays 10am-12:30pm, 1:30–4pm, at Union Tpke at Winchester Blvd, Bayside, Queens (718-217-4685, click here for the website.

Mentor Activity: Street Fairs, Columbus Day weekend, October 9th, 10th and 11th.

With just a precious short amount of time left until it’s too cold to hang out outside, take advantage of New York’s street fairs! Running from 11am – 6pm and free to attend, go check these neighborhood fairs for a multitude of seasonal goods… Everything from candied apples to winter wear to nicknacks from around the world!

Saturday, October 9th: W. 4th St between 6th Ave and University Place (A, C, E, D, F to W. 4th St)

Sunday, October 10th: Astor Place between Broadway and LaFayette (N, R to 8th St; 6 to Astor Pl)

Monday, October 11th, Broadway between Liberty St and Battery Pl (R to Whitehall St- South Ferry; 4, 5 to Bowling Green).
