popchips has always been an amazing supporter and friend of Stoked for awhile. We are very glad to announce a new development in our relationship- popchips has officially become the first official snack partner of the Stoked Plus Afterschool Skateboard Program! As the program partner, popchips has provided us with product to keep our kids poppin’, chippin’, and buildin’ for the rest of the semester. The delicious and deceivingly healthy snack is the perfect fit for our program- innovative, tasty, and good for you!
Stoked Plus Afterschool Skateboard Build Program was launched in September 2009 through direct partnerships with individual New York City public high schools. The biweekly programs runs for 10 weeks, during which each student builds and designs their own skateboard deck. Stoked employs one teaching artist for each school to work with participants in the program to help them design their completed skateboards. The program begins with four sessions of life skills workshops with the following eight weeks are dedicated to the skateboard building. Stoked Plus Afterschool Skateboard Build has been launched in the following New York public schools: City Polytechnic High School, Achievement First High School, Churchill High School, Brooklyn School for Collaborative Studies, and Brooklyn Tech High School.
By the end of 2010 approximately 140 youth will have completed the Stoked plus Afterschool program and over 160 skateboards have been completed through the program.
