We’re thrilled to offer our Los Angeles supporters a truly one of kind event called Stoked Spirit of the Holidays. There will be live music, a skate ramp, live screen printing, and more! All of this to benefit Stoked LA. We will be honoring philanthropist and pro skateboarder, Rob Dyrdek with the Stoked Spirit Award for opening a skatepark in the MacArthur Park section of Los Angeles. Tickets are only $25 and it helps increase the amount of kids we serve in 2010!

We’re pleased to announce that Team Stoked and Stoked Founder, Sal Masekela have successfully completed the NYC Marathon on November 1st. All together, over $80,000 was raised for Stoked during this effort. The funds used from this will go towards increasing our capacity to serve more kids with mentors, and expand our afterschool program.
We’re grateful to Sal and all of the other runners! Here are pictures from Sal from the marathon!

Stoked Phoebe
What’s your name and title?
Phoebe Brauer
Program Manager, Stoked L.A.
What are your day to day responsibilities?
I run the Stoked LA office and programs. My day-to-day covers pretty much anything and everything. I might start the day meeting with the Board of Directors of a Foundation, have a conference call with Nike, meet with some of the teens after school and finish off the day by sweeping and mopping the office. I think Steve might say I’m a hustler for Stoked. But maybe that sounds bad. In addition, I work on everything from fundraising and marketing to program and mentoring to strategy and administrative work.
What is the best part working at Stoked?
However cliche this sounds, it’s definitely the teens with whom I have the pleasure of working with. They are the reason I do what I do. Seeing the smallest growth in them can make me smile for a week. Watching them learn about themselves, become more confident, and push themselves is one of the highest privileges for me.
What is your favorite Stoked moment?
Ooooh. This is hard! There are too many! I’ll just go with the most recent one. It was last Saturday at Skate Mentor and one of our sophomore girls, Maricela, was convinced she couldn’t skate up a mini ramp. So she started small and practiced the whole day, pushing herself to go a little faster and a little higher. She definitely ate it a few times, but she kept going and finally by the end of the day was able to skate the ramp that she thought was too hard for her. She proved to herself that she is capable of anything she sets her mind to do, that if she believes in herself she can achieve anything. To me, that’s what Stoked is all about. Reminding each teen that they are special and unstoppable.

Stoked Plus is in full effect and now in Queens! Our 10-week after school program enables teens to learn communication skills and teamwork while building their own skateboards. We are currently in the second semester at Brooklyn School of Collaborative Studies (BCS) and have expanded our program to a new school, Information and Technology High School (ITHS) in Queens. Orientation was on Wednesday for our new school and today we will start skateboard building at BCS!
