We are fortunate enough to pilot our first after school program at the Brooklyn School of Collaborative Studies this year. Just a brief history… Last Fall, we got a phone call from a guidance counselor who said, “What will it take to bring Stoked to our school?” When we asked how she found out about Stoked, she mentioned that a parent of a skateboarder was going to transfer the student out of that school to one of our partner schools. So with that, Stoked Plus was born in Brooklyn. The BSCS kids are going to be making and designing their own skateboards while learning about science and art! They’re actually getting a half credit in science! At the end of the 10 weeks, they put together an art show for their community and then are matched with a mentor for a year to do our skate, surf, and snow programs.

We came up with the idea of Stoked Plus because our LA kids needed something to do after school. Also, we were looking for ways to engage our kids in an after school setting to reinforce the things their learning on the weekends with their mentors.
