Our Stokers in LA got to hang out for their last day at Motel No Tell. Hosted by Nike 6.0, Motel No Tell provided a spot for mentoring groups to bring kids into a progressive learning environment. The Stokers got to do art projects, play table games like ping pong, and got some awesome free gear including the first edition of the Stoked magazine. Stoked Totes with Rachel Nasvik

Renowned hand bag designer Rachel Nasvik has been kind enough to host a benefit for Stoked with the help of lower east side boutique TG-170. Rachel’s not only helping Stoked but she’s doing it with style by creating a tote bag contest with tote bag art submitted by people all over new york. Burn it. Screen it. Rip it. Tag it. Any way you slice it, handbag designer Rachel Nasvik wants to flush out of all the creative minds in New York City for her latest project. 100 blank canvas totes were distributed across NYC on August 19 from secret locations, to be embellished, deconstructed, collaged, torched, bedazzled, etc by willing competitors all vying for a chance to win one of 13 limited-edition Fall 2010 bags. The winning totes will be part of a gallery show and sale on August 31st at Lower East Side boutique TG-170, with proceeds of bag sales going to Stoked. Also for sale along with contest submissions will be totes designed by a range of creative artists and musicians, including Chan Marshall of Cat Power. TG-170 owner Terri Gilles says “I’m so happy to connect with all my diverse friends on such a wonderful project for Stoked! I wish I would have had a cool mentor when I was a kid- I like that we can be involved in something fun and artistic that will have an impact on kids here in NYC. With awesome and creative people like this the event is sure to be a hit. So be sure to stop by TG-170 at 170 Ludlow St. on August 31st from 6-9 to see all the beautiful totes and help support Stoked!

Stoked has Moved!

We’re settling into our new office at 920 Broadway just a couple blocks from our old home at Zoo York. While we’ll miss our old friends we’re already making new ones at Arkadium, the video game design company we moved in with. The new office is really nice, very spacious and full of natural sunlight. Probably the best part is the dry erase walls, yes I said walls, that we get to write all over like we always wished we could as kids. We also got our new phones up and running with a new number (646)-710-3600 so throw out the old one. The US Open of Surfing

Stoked LA had the pleasure of attending the US Open of Surfing last weekend. The Stokers got to sit VIP for some surf events, cruised the beach, and even got interviewed for a web-cast where they got to tell the story Stoked and share their favorite experiences. Their stories were so inspirational that Evan Geiselman, winner of the surf Pro Jr. event, decided to donate $1,000 to Stoked! Stoked NYC had an awesome weekend surfing at Far Rockaway beach. Everyone got to enjoy some nice weather while learning how to surf and upping their environmental protection IQs by learning about their carbon footprint and how they can reduce their individual impact on the world we all share. Stoked LA Photo Shoot

Stoked LA had a great weekend with a successful photo shoot for the up coming stoked book. Thanks to Gabrielle Revere who was kind enough to help us with her awesome photography skills and Joy Bryant who was a great model for some Stoked gear. We also want to thank Milk Studios for donating the location as well as all the mentor pairs and volunteers who help make the photo shoot a great success.

Surf Sessions LA

Stoked LA Surf had its second session this Saturday after a successful opening session on June 26th. The morning started with a bus full of Mentors and Mentees on it’s way to Will Rogers Beach in Santa Monica. The groups learned about building trust through exciting surf activities. On land the pairs worked on Popping-up and balancing while groups in the water worked on practicing their paddling and trying to catch a wave. Next week the pairs will be learning about Environmental Impact and how they can minimize their carbon foot-print. Can’t wait to see everyone there again!
