Year 3 Overnight Trip – Feb 2017

Words by: Valete Graham

Sometimes it all comes together.

31 sharp minds, from 10 schools across New York City, recently came together for their first STOKED overnight snowboarding trip. The group, which includes a diverse mix of sophomores, juniors, seniors, and college freshman, comprises the largest Year 3 cohort in our history.

Through weekly meet-ups, ranging from college fairs to hands-on seminars at a variety of organizations, STOKED’s Year 3 program empowers students to explore, select, and pursue career paths that they are interested in.

As a reward for students’ longtime dedication, each year the group embarks on a weekend overnight trip. This year’s activities included a nature hike, where students worked together to conquer a challenging course as one and left their mark by creating a variety of snow people at the peak, and an always adventurous round of “night boarding” at Windham Mountain.

I couldn’t imagine a better weekend. From sanding skateboards to signing yearbooks, it’s been an amazing ride and a pleasure working with these talented individuals for the past three years.
