We rebranded STOKED. We expanded to a new city. We launched a podcast.

What next?

The next phase is to create fearless leaders.

For the past 12 years, we've successfully helped young people. These high school students, who come from low income backgrounds, had never experienced having a positive role model in mentors, nor had transformative experiences, or learned new skills.

We've succeed in our mission in getting kids stoked about their future... and we're still doing it.

The next step we believe is developing a community of fearless leaders. These are the adults, the mentors, the supporters.

YOU are the missing piece to truly closing the opportunity gap for young people.

Since we started, we were so focused on the young people that we served that we neglected to invest in our community of adults. Any change in their life was by accident and not by design. 

We've seen mentors who were inspired by the STOKED culture and their mentee's fearlessness that they decide to go for it in their own life. As a result, we've seen the lives of adults transformed by this simple process of mentoring and risk-taking. 

In the 12 years of running STOKED, I've seen everything from people getting married, having children, going back to school, getting a new job, traveling the world, to starting their own businesses. 

These adults have become more fearless. When you become more fearless, you take more risks. More risks increases confidence. More confidence equals more opportunities. More opportunities equals success. More success equals giving back and empowering others to do the same.

So we have a crazy ambitious plan...

We are going to create 1,000 Fearless Leaders

How are we going to do it?

We're going to launch it in conjunction/collaboration as a course through our STOKED Igniters program.

Three years ago, we started the STOKED Igniters program... it was a monthly donation program that each adult donates $300 or $1000 a year to STOKED. Each amount represented sponsoring a student in the afterschool program or sponsoring a student for a full year in STOKED respectively. 

I'm going to use the blog to document my process for recruiting and convincing 1,000 adults to change their life and then use the money from that to change the life of young people in New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago.

I'm going to take you on this journey with me through this blog. I've never done anything like this before. This is all about being transparent and accountable... which is one of the traits of fearless leadership.

I'm going to use this blog to be accountable to my stakeholders, staff, youth, donors, and board. It will be updated every week until I've achieved my goal of getting 1,000 (adult) fearless leaders into the STOKED community.

So how is this going to happen?

We're going to launch a campaign to get people into the fearless leader community from June 5 - 15. 

From there, people will sign up and pay to be a part of this community. There will be a monthly membership fee for the cost for the course and training to become a fearless leader.

So yes, this fearless leadership program is a premium leadership development program for adults who have the desire to do great things in their life.

Through the podcast and through our network, I will use every resource available to train our fearless leaders in the ways of living and adding more leadership skills to their life and career. 

As I learn, I will share. There will be other successful mentors who help the adults develop into authentic fearless leaders... who give back to their community. 

The benefit is: for every fearless leader we bring in, STOKED will be able to serve another young person in one of our 3 program cities. 

Right now, we have 160 monthly members in our Igniter program. The goal is to increase that number to 1,000 this year, if not sooner.
