Vans Employees Raise $17,000 for STOKED
If you’re at a corporation with a lot of employees and/or merchandise, did you know that you can impact hundreds of kids in your city?
STOKED has had a relationship with Vans for over a decade and recently they held an event that helped raise money for STOKED while exposing the STOKED mission to 700 employees.
Our relationship with Vans started way back when they donated snowboard gear and boots to our snowboard program in 2008. Then it led to financial donations, then it lead to them providing opportunities for our kids to attend VIP events like the US Open of Surfing.
We even honored them at our 2016 Stoked Awards in New York as a corporate partner of the year.
Needless to say that we go way back. Most recently, they generously donated pallets of overstock and sample shoes to our wildly popular STOKED sample sales in New York.
So when they decided to have a corporate sample sale for their employees, it only felt natural for them to choose us as their charity partner.
Here’s how it works…. Every few months, Vans has excess inventory that they didn’t sell through their retailers and online. Whatever is left over, they hold a sale at their corporate headquarters for their 700 employees in Costa Mesa.
When the employee buys merchandise, they pay STOKED directly. Amazing, right?
It took 2 days to make happen. We went in the day before to help set up with a few mentor/volunteers and Vans staff. Then the next day, A few of our staff, coaches, and alumni helped run the sale.
To sell the merchandise, they gave hour long slots to employees to shop organized by alphabetical order.
At the end of the day, we ended up raising over 17K in sales. The awesome thing is that money will be directly benefit our upcoming afterschool program in Los Angeles.
STOKED has built a skillset and a community for raising money through retail sample sales. Over the past 4 years, we’ve made almost $100,000 from these sales. Companies donate excess merchandise and we know how to market the products and sell them without impacting the brand equity of our partners. Our students and alumni even get to work the event giving them retail experience that they can put on their resume.
