Women's History Month Profile on Jenny Lamott

Words by: Katie Ferraro Vans had always been a huge supporter of STOKED and all of it’s support has been made possible by Jenny Lamott. Jenny, who is the Manager of Corporate Responsibility at Vans has supported the growth of STOKED by giving product, in kind, and financial donations to our youth. Most memorably, our students are invited to the Vans US Open of Surfing each summer to enjoy surfing and learning opportunities.

We are so grateful to have Jenny as such a fierce supporter of STOKED! Jenny will close out our month of profiling some of the amazing women behind STOKED for our Women’s History Month celebration.

If you could pick 1 thing that you would be remembered for, what would it be?

Not sure about this one.  I want to be remembered as one who gave more than she received, always thought of others first, and cared deeply about family and friends more than anything else.

One piece of life advice for young people?

My favorite Nike slogan is “There Is No Finish Line”.  Life is a journey, not a destination.  We are so fortunate to live in the United States with access to clean air, clean water and open spaces.  We should all enjoy the journey as much as possible, but continue to work hard along the way, to make it the best it can be.

What don't people know about you? What's your secret talent?

People that I work with at Vans don’t know that I was 10th best in the world at one time, having finished 10th place in the Hawaii Ironman Triathlon.  I am a big fan of Action Sports, but personally, I’m an endurance athlete at heart.  I love to swim long distances, especially in the ocean, and I’m not afraid of sharks : )

If you were given an award what song would you walk out to?

Chariots of Fire theme song

Who's your She-ro?

Currently, I’m very impressed and inspired by Hillary Clinton.  She is doing an amazing job with her campaign to be the leader of the free world.  My favorite famous female during my younger years was Gloria Steinem.  She was an incredible inspiration to females growing up in the seventies and eighties.  My forever favorite is my mother, Janet Lamott, who taught me so much, and was a role model for many people who knew her.

We are fortunate to have the support of some of the most inspiring women in action sports and beyond.
