The paid craft.
The coach is the load bearing decision in this whole model. Same building, same twenty young people, twice a week, thirty three weeks. Paid, trained, and backed, because unpaid people leave and the entire promise here is somebody who does not.
Most of our coaches came up through this. You do not need a teaching license or a college degree. You need to be able to hold a room, get on a board, and keep showing up on a Thursday when it would be easier not to.
This is a real job at the start of a career. You will learn to run a session, handle a hard conversation, and be responsible for people who are counting on you. Those are career skills, and you will have a mentor of your own while you build them.
- Run weekly sessions at a partner school
- Hold a cohort of about twenty young people
- Train through the year: restorative practice, trauma informed care, CPR
- Get mentored by an adult who is further along
- 18 to 30
- Comfortable on a board, or willing to get there
- Free on weekday afternoons during the school year
- Background check, as with anyone working with young people
